Socialize Your Dog and Stop Aggressive Dog Behavior

“Can you believe my Rottie got kicked out of puppy school?”

That was the title of an article written a little over a year ago about how one of my favorite Rottweilers got kicked out of puppy school because he was displaying aggressive dog behavior.  I defended him and felt that he would end up just playing since I had seen him act this way in the past.

Although he was only about six months old, the instructor felt that he wanted to truly fight with the other dogs in the class and that he could not take that risk.  So, we ended up moving the lessons home which is what we were trying to avoid in the first place.

Socialize Your Dog Early

The whole point of sharing the story was to emphasize the importance of socializing your dog as a way to alleviate aggressive dog behavior.

Here is an excerpt from the original article…

“…You will want to make sure that your new dog is not only socialized with other dogs but also around children and people as well.  Have you ever been to a park and watched dogs that literally ignore other dogs while some of them appear as if they are filled with anxiety and looking to fight everything that moves?”

If you want to be a successful big dog owner, it is highly important that you not only socialize your dog but that you do it early.  Again, my dog was only six months old.  He had actually been around quite a few dogs in his young life and did not fight with them, but it simply wasn’t enough.
