Heaviest Dog in the World

According to the Director of the North Utah Valley Animal Services, the heaviest living dog in the world is a male English Mastiff from Peabody, MA named Hercules.  Hercules is said to weight in at a staggering 282 pounds.  In 1989, there was a Mastiff named Zorba who reportedly weighed 343 pounds.

Fastest Dog on the Planet

This is actually an easy one since we are used to seeing them race on television.  The Greyhound is the generally known as the fastest dog on the planet and has been clocked at speeds up to 45 miles per hour.  There are some people that say whippets are faster or that they can beat a greyhound racing due to having more stamina.

Cobra Snake Killer

Did you know that the rare Thai Ridgeback has a spotted or sometimes blacks tongue and was a sentry dog and carting dog.  Most impressively, it was trained to keep one of the world’s deadliest snakes at bay and can actually kill a Cobra.

Strongest Dog Bite Force

Contrary to popular belief, the Pit Bull Terrier does not have the strongest bite force.  Part of the reason for this belief is pictures of pit bulls handing from tires by their mouths and the fact that they are often the dog of choice in illegal dog fight clubs.  However, the title actually goes to the Rottweiler as the breed with the strongest bite.  It has been reported that some Rotties have a bite force up to 2400 pounds per square inch and more than double the typical bite pressure of a German Shepherd.

Non Barking Dogs

The Basenji is a hunting dog that originated from Africa and is sometimes called the Voiceless Dog due to the fact that they are unable to bark like most modern dogs.  Basenji are known to make a howling or yodeling type sound due to a strangely shaped larynx
